The Science

Squalane is derived from squalene, a lipid naturally found in human sebum that helps keep the skin soft and supple. Squalane is the hydrogenated form of squalene, making it more stable for use in skincare products while retaining many of the same skin-conditioning properties. Because it closely resembles components naturally present in the skin, squalane is readily accepted by the skin and absorbs easily without leaving a heavy or greasy feel.

Squalane functions as an emollient, forming a lightweight protective layer on the skin’s surface that helps reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL). By helping prevent moisture from escaping, squalane supports the skin barrier and helps maintain hydration, leaving the skin feeling softer, smoother, and more supple.
